Kendrick M. Khoo, M.D.
Dr. Kendrick Khoo earned his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. After completing his orthopedic surgery residency at UCSF Fresno in California, Dr. Khoo underwent an additional year of fellowship training in spine surgery at University of California Davis.
Dr. Khoo utilizes evidence-based medicine and a shared decision-making approach to offer patients better outcomes and long-term viable solutions.
Outside of seeing patients, Dr. Khoo enjoys going on road trips and cooking new recipes with his wife and son.
Serena E.B. Liu, M.D.
Dr. Serena Liu is a spine surgeon dedicated to patient education and communication. She is distinguished by her patient-centric approach and warm bedside manner, offering detailed explanations of diagnoses and comprehensive discussions of treatment options.
Having completed her orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Rochester and her spine surgery fellowship at the University of Maryland, Dr. Liu possesses a robust background in managing degenerative spinal disorders, minimally-invasive spine surgery, motion-preserving surgical techniques, and complex spine cases. She is dedicated to delivering exceptional care, utilizing the latest surgical techniques to enhance her patients' quality of life.
Dr. Liu is excited to join Northwest Spine Surgery LLC in October of 2024 and looks forward to serving the community with her expertise and passion for spine health.
Laurens Johansen M.D.
Laurens Johansen is a Board Certified Family Practitioner who has been working with Dr. Brett for almost 25 years. He assists in surgery and also see patients in the office. His primary care background adds some depth to the patient experience in a specialist’s office. He has lived in the Portland area since 1974 graduating from Portland Adventist Academy in 1979, getting a BS in Biology from Walla Walla University in 1983, and graduating from Loma Linda School of Medicine in 1987. He did his Family Practice residency in Hinsdale, IL from 1987-1990. He met and married his wife, Linda, of 33 years while living there. His father was also a FamilyMedicine physician here in the Portland area and they were able to practice together for seven years. Laurens likes to fish, read, play music, and go on road trips. He grew up in the Chicagoland area and is an avid sports fan.
Wesley Wenzel PA - C
Board-certified physician assistant Wesley Wenzel enjoys seeing patients progress over the course of their treatment and watching how much their quality of life improves. He brings 2 years of Orthopaedic experience and 5 years of Spine Surgery experience to the practice. From an early age, he had an interest in the sciences as well as caring for people and felt that medicine was the perfect balance of both. Wesley attended Willamette University where he majored in biochemistry while playing all 4 years on the football team. He then attended the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas for his medical training. He has been an athlete his entire life and enjoys helping patients return back to their preinjury level of function, whether that be a high-level athlete or just being able to return back to gardening. Wesley is married with a son and daughter and in his free time enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest hunting and fishing with his family.
